I-REC Certificate Details

1. What is an I-REC Certificate?
I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) is a certificate that certifies a certain amount (at least 1 MWh) of renewable energy production. Thanks to this certificate, businesses can prove that they provide their energy consumption from renewable sources.

2. How Does the I-REC Certificate Work?
Renewable energy producers create I-REC certificates to document the energy they produce. A certificate is issued for every 1 MWh of renewable energy production and this certificate is verified by independent verifiers. By purchasing these certificates, companies certify that their energy consumption is sourced from renewable sources.

3. Where is the I-REC Certificate Used?
I-REC certificates are widely used in many countries around the world. Companies purchase these certificates to balance their energy consumption with renewable energy and achieve their sustainability goals. They can also be used to comply with legal regulations in some countries.

4. What are the Benefits of Getting an I-REC Certificate?
There are many advantages to obtaining an I-REC certificate. First of all, it makes an environmental contribution and reduces carbon footprint with low investment cost. It also strengthens brand image and provides competitive advantage by achieving sustainability goals.

5. Which Power Plants Can Register on the I-REC Platform?
Licensed, Unlicensed Wind, Solar, Hydroelectric, Biomass, Geothermal, Geothermal and Waste Heat Power Plants and Hybrid Power Plants can register to the platform. All power plant registrations are valid for 5 years.

6. I am a Renewable Power Plant Owner. What are the advantages of registering my power plant on the I-REC platform?
Renewable power plants registered on the I-REC platform have the right to produce Green Energy Certificates. Thus, the power plants registered on the I-REC platform have the right to generate income through the sale of “Green Energy Certificates” in addition to generating and selling electricity.

7. From Which Energy Sources Are I-REC Certificates Obtained?
I-REC certificates are issued for electricity generated from wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass and geothermal energy sources. The certificates show which source the energy comes from and when it was produced.

8. Can We Choose the Source Type of the I-REC Certificate?
In I-REC certificates, the type of source does not change the validity of the certificate, but in case of a special request, the company has the right to obtain a certificate from the desired source type.

9. Are I-REC Certificates Independent from Electricity Supply?
Yes, I-REC certificates are independent from the physical electricity supply. These certificates allow you to balance your electricity use with renewable energy, but are not directly linked to electricity supply.

10. When I get an I-REC Certificate, can I prove that the electricity I use comes from physically renewable sources?
No. Renewable Energy Power Plants give the electricity they produce to the grid. The electricity consumed is met from the grid. It is currently not possible to differentiate the type of resource that is met from the grid in the electricity consumed. The I-REC certificate proves with an international certificate that all or part of the energy used is matched with electricity produced from renewable energy sources.

11. Our Company has a Renewable Energy Power Plant for Domestic Consumption. Our Electricity Production Amount Does Not Meet Our Consumption Amount. How Many MWh I-REC Certificate Should We Obtain?
In the I-REC certificate, the amount drawn from the grid is important. The certificate should be obtained for the total amount of energy withdrawn from the grid, excluding the production of the renewable power plant.

12. How are I-REC Certificates Verified?
I-REC certificates are audited and verified by independent verifiers. Authenticity can be proved with the QR code on the certificate

13. Can Changes Be Made to the Certificate After the Certificate is Created?
No, no. Production credits used for each certification process belong only to that certificate. No changes can be made after the approval process. For this reason, it must be ensured that the necessary information is provided correctly to the certifying institution before the certificate is created.

14. Can I-REC Certificates be obtained for Past and Future Periods?
Yes, companies can purchase I-REC certificates for their past and future energy consumption. This allows them to offset their past consumption with renewable energy or plan their future consumption.

15. Can I Reduce Electricity Bill with I-REC Certificate?
No, no. The I-REC certificate does not directly reduce the electricity bill, but it helps companies comply with legal regulations on the use of green energy and achieve their sustainability goals. It can indirectly optimize energy costs.

16. Which Companies Can Work with I-REC Certificate?
Any company can obtain I-REC certification. This covers a wide range from large industrial organizations to small businesses. It is suitable for all businesses that want to document their use of renewable energy.

17. What is the Difference Between I-REC Certificates and Other Green Certificates?
I-REC certificates are internationally recognized and certified by independent verifiers. It works similarly to other green certificates, but I-REC is one of the most widely traded green energy certificates.
